What can stop action?

A theme of mental health awareness week this year is action. Moving on from awareness of mental health into action for yourself, for others and for everyone. Action though can be easier said than done. So I wanted to explore what stop action and some ideas of how to move forwards.

Not having a clear objective
What are you trying to do and how? Finding the answers to these questions can help you take action. As not having a clear objective and ways of meeting this it is hard to do it.
Writing such as using spider diagrams can be a good to brainstorm ideas to solve the problems. You may be surprised how many different ideas you come up with and can choose ones that feel manageable as a first step.
Perfectionism
Wanting to do things perfectly often can lead to not attempting to do something at all. Taking a more realistic view that things take practice to get good at and giving yourself attempts to get there can help you take the initial early steps.
Be compassionate to yourself and appreciate that even the greats of a chosen thing such a golf for instance, would have struggled initially and its through time and commitment that they have improved their craft. The same applies to you. You will struggle and fail but through it you can get better.
Relying on external factors
This can look like waiting for the right time and circumstances. While there is truth in this, it can be easy getting stuck into this and end up constantly waiting for the time that never comes. An example for this can be starting a hobby when you retiring so spend many years putting off starting it, thus losing out on opportunities you have to have started.
Setting a deadline, not only when to start, but each stages of something can help this as it drives an urgency to start taking action.
I hope this has been helpful and has given some ideas as to how to start your action. What do you want to start doing for yourself, for others and everyone? And how are you start taking action? Let me know in the comments of my social media posts.
